The Argos Collective

AMER Exhibition

Supported by the Iris Foundation ,  the Argos Collective  launched its exhibition  Bitter :

  In Paris

on the banks of the Seine between the Pont Neuf and the Pont au Change

The Collective's reporters set out to meet maritime and coastal communities whose resources are monopolized by public or private, tourist or industrial interests.

“Sea grabbing can turn out to be as serious a threat as land grabbing”, points out Olivier de Schutter, UN Special Rapporteur for the Right to Food.

It is to defend this cause that the Argos collective has developed a documentary project on the perils that threaten the seas and oceans, and on examples of concrete solutions to preserve these ecosystems.

The oceans, a stake for biodiversity and a goal of sustainable development, are today at a turning point in their history. After decades of unlimited exploitation, encouraged by an imperfect law of the sea, this ecosystem is today threatened with exhaustion and extinction.

 Sauvegarde des forêts primaires

Safeguarding for primary beings

The loss of the vegetation cover, and especially that of primary forests has a direct impact on the rainfall pattern, the capacity of carbon sequestration, the production of oxygen and the number of vital living species. Quite simply on life itself.

The aim of the "Sauvegarde des Forêts Primaires" association, is to encourage, promote and organize a range of projects that participate in the conservation of primary forests.

The Fondation Iris is backing one of these projects in the hope of carrying as widely and urgently as possible the message carried by the venerable French botanist Francis Hallé in his fight for the survival of tropical forests. This support focuses in particular on:

  • The "Sauvegarde des Forêts Primaires" association participating to a botanical mission in Gabon on February 2019.

  • The Association’s participation in the making of the original film production "Poumon Vert et Tapis Rouge" (Green Lungs and Red Carpet) with Francis Hallé. This film, directed by Luc Marescot, carries Hallé’s message in a very original way. The film was presented at the La Rochelle Festival, France in November 2019,  and will be released on January 20, 2020.

  • The free distribution of the above film in Middle schools, High schools, Film schools as well as festivals dedicated to adventure, exploration and  environmental issues.

  • The free release in primary schools of a 5 to 10 minutes’ film "Dessine moi ta Forêt" (Draw your Forest) designed to encourage children to draw the trees in their surroundings and express their vision of the forest.

INSIGNIFIANT

Insignificant:

the place of man in the universe

une espèce à part, la place de l'homme dans l'univers, Insignifiant

In the aftermath of COP21, climate and environmental issues remain a priority subject for the international community.

Rather than  to display a pessimistic view of the damage caused by human activity, this short film attempts to awaken the viewer to the wonders of nature. The narrative frame projects its audience into a world in which Man has never been the center, while the 3D images immerse the spectator entirely in this theater of infinite dimensions.

Animation masterpieces, the 10 3-minute episodes, written and directed by Franck Courchamp and Clément Morin, offer to gently put the human in his place.

The Insignificant project is the fruit of the collaboration between the  CNRS  and Paris-Sud University . The  Iris Foundation  is a partner in this project. Find it in full at  ARTE.TV. _

The idea of the project "40 Wild Years in Indonesia", supported by the  Iris Foundation ,  is to return to the places visited during these 40 years by going from village to village to testify to what he had then been able to observe through his films and his photos:

how large populations of majestic creatures have been reduced to a handful of individuals forced to survive in sanctuaries, how lives and traditions have been ruined by the destructive practices of logging natural forests, but also how towns in clay have miraculously transformed into thriving communities through good management of natural resources.

At each stage, welcomed by the local communities in their modest homes and enjoying their legendary hospitality as he has done during all these years of reporting, he will try to make them aware that they are the guardians of the magnificent heritage natural to their country.

In order to reach the widest possible audience, it is also planned to communicate regularly on social networks throughout the duration of the trip. It is also planned to carry out new reports during the trip showing the current state of affairs.

against plastic pollution of seas and oceans

affiche expédition 7éme continent, dessin pollution plastique

Association  7th Continent Expedition  acquired in 2017 a  sailboat, financed by the  Iris Foundation , which  allows him  to go further in its fight against plastic pollution in the seas and oceans. This sailboat is made available to scientists working on plastics and also makes it possible to increase awareness-raising operations.

The sailboat was presented to the public for the first time on March 27, 2018 on the occasion of Escale à Sète, celebration of maritime traditions.

"Plastic has invaded all areas of the planet and, inexorably, it ends up concentrating in the ocean. Even in the most remote islands we have seen traces of the Anthropocene in the form of plastic waste of all kinds. "

For the  Iris Foundation  whose object is to "save the fragile beauty of the world", find ways to stop this tide, and quickly, has become a major concern. We looked for associations, techniques, men and women who fought against this scourge.

Many, like Sisyphus, collect plastics on the beaches only to find as many in the following months! We must therefore seek solutions at the source of the problem, by raising awareness and educating populations, while trying to understand the plastic cycle and predict changes in what is already in microparticles in the environment.

This holistic approach we found in the association  7th Continent Expedition  and its very dynamic team which knew how to work with researchers and various actors to multiply its action. "

Natural Wonders of Yunnan

Merveilles naturelles du Yunnan

Wild Wonders of China  is an initiative of the foundation  Wild wonders  which sets out to reveal the natural wonders of China to the whole world. Through the emotional power of photography, combined with a communication integrating the fundamental principles of  Taoism  who, from the first centuries AD, created institutions and rules aimed at protecting the environment and ensuring that the natural balance is not upset, this initiative aims to inspire us all to discover the remarkable biodiversity of China, to love and protect it.

The  Iris Foundation  supported  financially three photographic missions to the UNESCO World Heritage site of " Protected Areas of the Three Parallel Rivers in Yunnan " between October 2017 and May 2018.

This region, with highly variable temperatures and rainfall and with altitudes ranging from 1000 to 6740 meters at Mount Kawagebo, is one of the most biodiverse temperate regions on the planet. It is home to many endemic species of animals, birds and plants. It is the very epicenter of the development of rhododendrons and azaleas. The region is home to charismatic wildlife such as the snow leopard, clouded leopard, Asian brown bear, otter, takin, Reeves' muntjac and many more. The tallest living non-human primate in the world, the Yunnan brown rhinopithecus, lives there along with several other very local primates. It is a real treasure of Himalayan biodiversity.

The summit of consciousness

Le sommet des consciences

As a preamble to the Climate Conference, the  COP21, on  Summit of Consciences  for the Climate met in Paris on July 21, 2015  personalities of all religions and wisdoms from around the world to jointly launch a "Call of Consciences for the Climate".

A mobilization of the consciousness of all the inhabitants of the planet can make it possible to succeed in the challenge facing humanity: to limit the warming of the climate by reducing its consumption of fossil fuels!

It is no longer just a political, economic or ecological question. It is the future of humanity that is at stake.  Each of us is now called to answer the question:  Why do I care?  Does it matter to me that humanity's adventure on Earth can continue? Am I ready to change my way of life today so that our children's children come into the world in bearable conditions?

The  Iris Foundation  is a partner of the "Why do I care" initiative.

Exhibition "Les Routes du Miel"
on the gates of the Luxembourg garden

Exposition "Les Routes du Miel" sur les grilles du jardin du Luxembourg

The exhibition " Les Routes du Miel " , made up of 80 exceptional photos by Éric Tourneret  the "bee photographer" will take place in the heart of Paris, on the gates of the Luxembourg garden, from September 19, 2015 to January 19, 2016 during the climate conference  PARIS 2015 - COP 21.

With more than a million visitors, this exhibition represents an extraordinary chance to send a strong signal for the preservation of bees at a time when they are disappearing, victims of an agricultural model which pours tons of pesticides into nature and transforms our landscapes in green desert, toxic for the bees and without providing them the necessary food. Unique in its scope, this exhibition can allow everyone to unite around an event to show our desire to save nature as we know it for future generations.
